What you can expect from me is a kind, supportive, reflective process that will gently move you toward areas of greater healing. I have a sense of humor that pervades and seeks to help you find the joy in life that resonates with you. I keep myself apprised of current research from the scientific community to see what are the trends in behavioral health that come from evidenced based work. This is the main reason I was drawn to the work of Carl Rogers,  Eugene Gendlin and John Gottman. These pioneers in therapy research have stood the test of time and set the stage for my therapeutic approach.

In my career as a social worker I have worked with many diverse cultures from all over the world having spent over 20 years in programs that serve refugees/immigrants, disabled populations, and veterans. I have extensive experience working with African American and Latino cultures dealing with interracial family matters. Working as a vocational consultant and career coach, I have served individuals in all industries from executives and professionals to those in general and skilled labor positions. I draw from many theoretical approaches for interventions that treat trauma, anxiety, depression and the search for Self Actualization. I use interventions that draw from Focusing, Existential theories, Mindfulness, Gestalt, Internalized Oppression and Psychosynthesis. I always take a Person-Centered approach to therapy as the core of my practice. My primary strategies are empathy, positive regard, and connection. I look for balance in the whole person to seek stability in body, mind, emotion and spirit. Ultimately, the idea is to find what works for you, not to force any theoretical approach on you.

At the foundation of my work is the practice of Person-Centered therapy created by Carl Rogers. There are three core principles a therapist must embrace as a Person-Centered therapist: congruence, unconditional positive regard, and empathy. I see this as being in harmony with you (CONGRUENCE), holding you with respect, honor and care (POSITIVE REGARD), and attempting to listen at the highest level to understand your reality and feelings (EMPATHY).

I use the work of Eugen Gendlin and his method of Focusing. What is important about this work is that it comes from evidenced based research and allows the individual to tap into subconscious layers of the self that are hidden from the conscious mind. Research around trauma has shown us that the difficulty in processing trauma derives from the fact that it is not something merely locked in the mind, but often stored in the body. Focusing helps to create a mind/body connection to link to higher levels of communication with the whole self and find answers to questions that evade us.

At times in our work together I will use Cognitive Behavioral strategies to help manage your thoughts and mode of operation. All the elements combine to figure out the right process for you. Remember, this is your journey and I will walk with you. I am here to help you along your pathway of discovery to find evolution and health through discovery of your greater consciousness.
